Vacation!

We've been on our annual beach vacation this week and we have been having so much fun!  Sunday was my birthday and I worked half a day.  Sadly, one of my favorite patients died that morning.  I was happy that I was able to be there when he passed away but it was very sad and very difficult.

We arrived at the beach around 3pm, got unpacked and the rest of the afternoon on the beach.  On Monday morning Aaron and I went to Food Lion for groceries and then we went back to the house and spent more time out on the beach.

Mom, Annagrace and I went out and did some shopping on Tuesday morning and my friend, Jenn arrived with her daughter Lilley in the afternoon.  We went on the beach for a little while and then went out to Michealangelo's for supper.

Wednesday morning, Aaron and I went to the local fire department and borrowed a beach wheelchair for my mom.  The Emerald Isle Fire Department has eight beach wheelchairs that they lend out on a first come, first served basis.  It is a blessing and we were so thankful to be able to borrow one for my mom.  We had to wheel her down the road a little ways to a nearby beach access because although the house we are staying in is handicapped accessible, the beach access is not.  We set up a canopy tent on the beach, carried out our chairs, rolled mom out and parked her under the tent and spent the next five hours playing in the sand and swimming.  The water was a little rough and it was unbelievably hot but still a fun day.

Today Annagrace and I went out by ourselves and did some shopping.  We found a neat little general store in Morehead City that we both loved.  I was happy to find a few new tops on clearance at Hi-Lites and we had pizza for lunch.  When we got back she and I went out swimming for a little while.  The water was much calmer today and we had a good time floating in our innertubes.  This afternoon we took the girls to the NC Aquarium for their pirate event and then to play putt putt.  We had so much fun!  The girls loved playing putt putt!

We only have 2.5 more days here (boooo!!!!).  We are going to spend tomorrow morning on the beach and in the afternoon we'll be heading to Beaufort to visit the Maritime Museum (they have a pirate exhibit that Madalyn is dying to go to!) and to pick up my race packet for my 5K on Saturday.  I still can't believe I signed up for a 5K in the middle of July!  I'm nervous but excited and I'm really looking forward to it!

  1. Just came across your blog today and realized you vacationed near me in NC recently. I too have 3 little birds...but I call them ducks. We're on our 3rd year of homeschooling. Looking forward to reading about your flock.
