Anyone know what movie that line is from?
I have fallen helplessly in love this week. The object of my affection? My new (to me) bodybugg. What you ask is a bodybugg?
A bodybugg is a small device worn on the back part of the left arm that keeps a detailed record of the calories you are burning each day. You wear it all day long and at the end of the day you upload your info to the bodybugg website (you need a monthly subscription to have access to the site). You may have seen them on the arms of the Biggest Loser contestants.
You also enter in what you have eaten that day and you get a report of your calorie deficit or surplus for that day.
This is a screenshot of what I see when I log in. This is yesterday's information. It shows that I burned a total of 3544 calories for the day from the time I put it on around 9AM until after midnight (I was up late exercising). I entered in my foods and my calories consumed was 1930 giving me a deficit of 1614 for the day.
You can see that on this day although I only had one really high energy exercise session, I was constantly on the go all day long--running after Layla at the park, pushing carts in the store, shopping, etc. That is what I LOVE about this thing. I used to be one of those people that never saw how the "little things" could add up. You know how you always hear--take the stairs or park farther away? I would always tell myself that unless I was actually "exercising" and sweating that that little stuff didn't matter. Let me tell you...it DOES.
Last weekend I was crazy busy at work driving here and there and everywhere seeing patients. I knew I wouldn't get much exercise in (if at all). I decided to see if I could burn some calories in my car. Yes--while driving in my car. I did silly things like reaching up and tapping the ceiling 100 times with each arm (try it--your arms will get a workout!). I danced (as much as I could while driving) and at stoplights I did arm curls. I actually burned about 50 calories by doing that crazy stuff!
My goal is to have a deficit each day of at least 750 calories. Multiply 750 by 7 and you get 5,250 a week. Divide that by 3500 (the number of calories in a pound) and you get 1.5 pounds--so I should theoretically lose 1.5 pounds a week if I have a deficit of 750 calories each day.
Just for fun I checked my averages for the week and did the math. According to the bodybugg I had a deficit of 7,168 calories this week. Divide that by 3500 and you get....two. Guess how many pounds I've lost this week? Yep. TWO!
They say this is suppose to be 92% accurate. I am so impressed by this little piece of technology and I can understand why The Biggest Loser uses them. Do you ever notice how sometimes the trainers are so upset by the numbers and how sometimes they seem so certain that someone has "thrown a weigh in"? With the bodybugg, if you are honest about your intake, then the only way you can gain weight (if the bodybugg says you had a deficit) is by loading up on water or cheating on your food log. Those trainers know because the bodybugg knows.
I love this thing. I was so blessed to be able to buy it used in like new condition from a friend or a friend. It has been one of the best investments I have made. If you are able to afford it--it is worth it. If it's too pricey--it's worth it to save up for one!
