So let me preface this by saying that this works in theory but in reality I don't always follow my own advice! If anyone says that they love doing laundry then they are either lying or they are lying. I just don't trust someone who says that they find enjoyment in washing, folding and putting away laundry. Nope. Don't trust them one bit. You might as well tell me you like snakes and mice too.
So here are a few things that I do to make laundry slightly, but only slightly, more bearable.
1) Laundry days are Mondays and Fridays with a load of diapers thrown in on Wednesday too. I just started this one but that is the new rule in our house. I am only doing laundry two days a week. If you need something on a day other than Monday or Friday then you have to fend for yourself because this mama is not doing laundry every single day.
2) Cloth diapers are washed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If we run out over the weekend we (gasp!) use disposables. Since I started working weekends I try to have the house cleaned, the grocery shopping done and all the clothes washed before I start taking call on Fridays at 5pm. I don't get bent out of shape if I have a busy weekend and don't have time to do laundry. Luckily I have started to build up quite an assortment of cloth diapers. Here is my stash minus about three:
I do love some cloth diapers. Especially Fuzzibunz. I am amazed at how well they hold up in the wash and how they don't stain! All the other diapers have residual staining on them that I have to "bleach out" by placing them in the sun. Not these babies. They look just as clean as the day that I bought them (second hand from a friend for pennies on the dollar!). 3) We all have our own clothes basket. Aaron and I share a large one and each child has their own smaller one. The towels are washcloths have their own basket too. Looking back I really wish the girls had different colored baskets. But I put their names on them with a Sharpie and it makes it much easier to sort their clothes when I am folding them. Here is a peek into my kitchen on laundry day. I can't believe I'm posting this photo. Ignore the dirty rug, the window crayon drawings on the window and the door that is haphazardly propped up against the shed outside! (Not to mention the ugly fan that needs to be swapped with the chandelier from the "old" dining room....or all the junk on the counter top....or the bare walls....just use your imagination and pretend this room is gorgeous and clean!).

I fold each load as it comes out of the dryer and place them in the correct basket.
4) This one doesn't really make it easier but it makes it cheaper. I love using Charlie's Soap for laundry. It is a non-toxic, biodegradeable gentle detergent that I originally started using because it is gentle enough for cloth diapers. But I use it for everything. It works really well and our clothes don't have a detergent smell. They just smell clean. I have also noticed that even if I don't use fabric softener there is very little static in our clothes. A $15 bag of Charlie's Soap will last me about 3-4 months. The product info says 80 loads per bag so you are talking pennies per load!
